If you have a fireplace in your home, it is usually the standout piece in the room that draws your attention in immediately. This is why it is important to have a well-decorated mantel to compliment the fireplace and create a cohesive look.
The biggest challenge when decorating your mantel is finding balance in the items you display. You want to ensure your layout doesn’t feel cluttered or overwhelming because that can take away from the fireplace itself.
When you decide to start decorating your mantel, it can be helpful to start with one large piece such as a framed picture or mirror. This gives you a center point to work off of and it will draw the eye in immediately to the fireplace and the display. Take the time to secure the item to the wall so it doesn’t shift or fall.
A live or faux plant on the fireplace can bring in a refreshing feel to your mantel display and it provides a nice pop of color which is great if you’re working with lots of neutrals and whites. Consider something simple like branches in a clear vase or try out fresh flowers that are rotated weekly.
Bring In Accents
Once you have the larger part of your design done, you’ll need to fill some of the gaps with smaller decor pieces. These items can be personal memorabilia, candles, vases or really anything that you’re proud to display. Consider three or four items and test out where they fit best once your display is almost complete.
