The Fall season is almost officially here and Winter won’t be far behind which means it’s time to get your home ready for the upcoming change in weather. One way to prepare yourself for the cold part of the year is to give your gas fireplace a deep clean inside and out, ideally, your gas fireplace would be cleaned at the start and end of each season.
Cleaning your fireplace regularly will help the unit last longer and will help it run as efficiently as possible all year long. If you happen to own a Valor Fireplace, there are a few guidelines to follow when cleaning the inside and outside of your gas fireplace:
When cleaning your glass window, you want to make sure to use the recommended cleaning products that Valor has suggested. Products such as Brasso, Polish Plus by Kelkem, Cook Top Clean Creme by Elco, White Off by Rutland, and last but not least Turtle Wax. Staying on top of cleaning your glass will prevent build-up or any residue.
Cast Iron Stove Body & Front Trim
When it comes to cleaning your fireplace trim or body, use a soft cloth to remove any dust or dander. You can also clean the cast iron parts with mild soap and warm water.
Ceramic Logs & Rocks
If you want to deep clean your unit, the glass rocks and/or ceramic logs can be cleaned. Once you have opened your fireplace window, the logs and inside firebox can be dusted carefully. If you have glass rocks in your unit, these are dishwasher safe! Once removed, wash your glass beads on the top rack of your dishwasher and dry completely before replacing.
Steel Surrounds & Trims
When working with steel, it’s important to only clean these trims with mild soap and warm water as harsher products can damage the coating. Also, before cleaning make sure the unit has had time to cool completely.
If you keep these important tips in mind when cleaning your fireplace, your unit will look almost as good as the day you purchased it. Schedule your cleaning times around the seasons and holidays to make sure your Valor Fireplace gets the attention it deserves.
