When choosing a fireplace for your home, it can be normal to end up with more questions than answers as you work your way through the decision process. Now, when it comes to a gas fireplace, in particular, there can be some really burning questions that come up that you need to be answered before you can make your final decision. That’s where we come in as we have answered five of the most common questions about gas fireplaces.

Where Can Gas Fireplaces Typically Be Installed?

Fireplaces can be installed in a variety of locations depending on your needs and living space. Decide what kind of fireplace is right for you by reading through the points below.

  • Zero-clearance gas fireplaces are designed to be installed in new construction projects or when renovating your home.
  • Gas inserts are designed to be installed within an existing masonry cavity or fireplace and uses the existing chimney as structure to run venting for the unit.
  • Freestanding gas fireplaces or stoves can vent through existing chimneys, through the roof with new venting, or out the wall via a direct vent installation.

Are Gas Fireplaces Safe For Children And Pets?

Fireplace surfaces, particularly the glass viewing window, can reach temperatures of over 500°F at full capacity and will remain hot for a short time after the fireplace is turned off. Contact with the hot glass can cause severe burns. Close adult supervision is required when there are young children or at-risk individuals in the house.

A barrier screen is recommended at all times and is included with all Valor gas fireplaces.
