It won’t be long until we see leaves falling to the ground and colder temperatures sweeping in, sending us all inside for a little extra warmth and comfort. Before that fall weather hits, this is a great time to pay a little extra attention to your Valor Gas Fireplace and perform the maintenance and upkeep it needs to keep burning all fall and winter long. These little tasks can go a long way when it comes to helping your Valor Fireplace perform at its best.

What is the best way to clean my fireplace for the cooler months?

Before you begin, always refer to your fireplace’s instruction manual for specifics surrounding routine maintenance such as glass cleaning and replacement of batteries in your remote receiver and handset. To prepare for the cooler months, consider the following:

  • Use a soft brush to dust off the safety or barrier screen.
  • Replace the batteries in the remote and fireplace receiver.
  • Dust can be brushed from the ceramic logs/rocks and firebox walls after removing the front unit and opening the window.
  • Clean glass shards by putting them in the dishwasher for a cycle. Ensure they are completely dried before putting them back in the fireplace.
  • Clean the glass window by referring to Valor’s website.

When performing routine maintenance, please keep in mind that fireplace surfaces, in particular the glass viewing window, are extremely hot during operation and will remain hot for a period of time after the fireplace is turned off.
